In the years before the incomparable Sherlock Holmes drove away the competition, and despite his arrogant claim to be the first of his kind, Baker Street was filled with consulting detectives. To judge Fogg against Holmes would be entirely unreasonable, for the two men couldn’t be more different in character. Where Holmes was driven and precise, Fogg was a feckless dabbler, concerned more with his mechanical inventions and chemical experiments than with the solving of his clients’ problems. Undoubtedly, had he not taken on Mrs Emma Boswell as his secretary, he’d have quickly gone out of business and there’d be no record of his eccentricities or the remarkable threats he encountered and somehow nullified. It is fair to say that Fogg, on more than one occasion, saved not just his clients but the Earth itself, and certainly could not have done so without the long suffering Mrs Boswell at his side.
In the second of their recorded adventures, Fogg and Boswell confront an ages old vampire, and Fogg finds a unique way of putting the ancient threat to rest!

The MaCallister Fogg series is great. Well developed characters, fun plots, breezy and well written. But they are short. Great fir a quick read while in line, waiting room, etc, but don't expect a novel or even a novella. They would be fabulous expanded into book length or all in one book, fleshed out a bit. Well-constructed short story, good for a quick and satisfying diversion. Looking forward to reading more by this author in the future.
Again predictable and a few mistakes like the Fog instead of Fogg at the beginning . Unless it is a pun . I liked the use of the contraption to get rid of the bad guy .
I will read the third of the series ....
This is the second short story in the series. Light, witty and in the style of the Victorian penny bloods. Hodder doesn't disappoint with another installment of the bumbling adventures of Baker streets other consulting detective. My only wish was that it could be longer. Those wanting something more substantial should also try the books from the Burton and Swinburne series.
Another good 'episode' of Hodder's tale. This one widens the setting to include some supernatural elements. Again Hodder makes great use of his characters and the pair of Fogg and Boswell and the reader will love the interactions of these two. A fun little story that is a quick read.
